Haridwar Rishikesh Gangotri

Package code: HRG-2023

Description

Situated along the holy Ganga, Haridwar is famous for its temples and ghats where pilgrims bathe to relieve themselves of their sins and achieve salvation. This is one of the four holy Kumbha Mela sites in India also. Every day in the evening there is an elaborate Ganga aarti here which starts from 06:00 pm - 07:00 pm and in the morning it starts from 5:30 am to 6:30 am at Har Ki Pauri. Many people visit Har Ki Pauri for Ganga aarti. Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi are the most famous temples in Haridwar. This city is revered as the Gateway to God. Hrishikesa is a name derived from Vishnu, composed of Hrisika meaning senses and Isa meaning lord for a combined meaning of Lord of the Senses. The name commemorates an apparition of Vishnu to Raibhya Rishi, as a result of his tapasya, as Lord Hrishikesha. Rishikesh is commonly referred to as the Yoga capital of the world and rightly so. The destination is crowded with visitors, who come here to learn yoga and meditation. Rishikesh is the starting point for many pilgrimage destinations in Uttarakhand in Garhwal Himalaya. These two cities are the most revered cities in Uttarakhand. According to Puranas, the most sacred of all rivers, Ganga descended from heaven to earth at Gangotri, when Lord Shiva released the mighty river from his locks. The actual origin of the river is at Gaumukh in the Gangotri glacier, 19 km away from Gangotri, and is accessible by trekking. Gangotri is one of the four sites in the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. It is also the origin of the Ganges river and the seat of the goddess Ganga. The river is called Bhagirathi at the source and acquires the name Ganga from Devprayag onwards where it meets the Alaknanda. These three cities are the most famous pilgrimage spots in Uttarakhand.
